Self-Assertiveness

It’s about self-confidence and self-assertion. About assertiveness. The artists in this exhibition present their perspectives on these themes—through their own unique approaches and styles, and through their own life stories, which document how one can successfully assert oneself with confidence. Especially in turbulent times

“Self-Assertiveness” features artists from Africa who have achieved international success and assert themselves confidently in a volatile art market that, in recent years, has dealt harsh blows—particularly to emerging artists—and scared off collectors.

On view at the AG18 Gallery—unlike anywhere else in Austria—are strong artists: Boris Anje Anjel, Gerald Cukwuma, Hako Hankson, Oluwole Omofemi, Damilola Opedun, and Zandile Tschabalala. Also featured are bold, up-and-coming young artists—from Africa and—like Louise Deininger, Daniela Frimpong, Famakan Magassa, and Thomas Vava—from Austria’s “Black Community.”
