June Hwajung

June Hwajung, born in South Korea in 1991, is currently studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in Daniel Richter’s class. His work is deeply rooted in his identity as an Asian, non-native speaker, and queer man navigating European culture. This personal perspective shapes his diverse artistic practice, which combines performance, installation, and painting to explore the complexity of human duality and emotional intimacy. His paintings feature transparent, intertwined figures with ambiguous forms that reveal the uncertainty and fluidity of human relationships. June captures moments of intense emotional expression and invites viewers to confront the fragile boundaries between closeness, connection, and alienation. The recurring motifs in his works – intertwined bodies, intimate spaces, and symbolic places of human encounter – create a visually powerful language that is both emotionally touching and intellectually captivating. This multi-layered visual world is accompanied by an equally diverse and sensitive color palette.
