Ben Reyer

Ben Reyer, born 1985 in Vienna, grew up in Los Angeles. Studied at the University of California. Lives and works since 2012 again in Vienna, further with connection in L.A..
Using a scalpel, Ben Reyer creates loud and powerful cut and paste collages, assembled from old magazines, books, and posters, always sourcing original material from his extensive archive.
The artist is best known for his socially critical collages, which are peppered with excerpts from Western popular, advertising and print media. So it can be an angel hugging a cigarette or the Marlboro Man going out to dine at MC Donalds. Most of his work is underpinned with a good dose of humor, not least to facilitate the enjoyment of criticism.
